YAUBULA COMMITTEES
What is a Yaubula Committee (YC)?
- A YC is a community-based organization that works to protect natural resources.
- YCs’ can be at the Provincial Level, District level and Village Level
- YCs’are the caretakers of resource management programs for the Province, Tikina or Village.
- To be aware of the importance of management of natural resource and how they should take ownership of the committee
- The linkages of the National Committee to village yaubula committees.
- Understand the roles and responsibilities of the committee as to advice the community on natural resource management.
- Today, there are functioning YCs’all over Fiji.
- YCs’today manage terrestrial as well as aquatic ecosystems (Ridge to Reef)

What is the role of YC’s?
- Respond to requests for field assessments and development.
- Conduct environmental awareness in villages.
- Work with supporting government agencies, NGOs, etc.
- Help organize and lead Yaubula Management Planning Workshops.
- Help conduct monitoring surveys.
- Provide advice and support to communities and support teams.
YCs’ are key to I’Taukei Affairs Board Strategic Plan
Policy Objective 2.4 - ENVIRONMENT MANAGEMENT
2.4.1 – To encourage the establishment of Yaubula Committees in each Province.
2.4.2 – To encourage and facilitate natural resource management and conservation.
2.4.3 – To monitor and report the exploitation of natural resources and environment.
