The Conservation Unit's role is aligned to the iTaukei Affairs Act 1944 and to the provision of the iTaukei Affairs (Tikina and Village Council) regulation 1996, section 13 (2) sub-section (h), (i) and (j) which deals with planting of adequate crops prohibition of damages to vegetation, maintenance of places of historic importance and the preservation of wild life, items and artifacts of value to the iTaukei.
The Board have also aligned itself to section 15 (1) of the Environment Management Act 2005 in the establishment of the Conservation Unit and as of to-date have placed 14 Conservation Officers in the respective Provincial Council Offices around Fiji. while four (4) officers administer the Unit from Head Office.
