The Well-being Units' Role is aligned to the iTaukei Affairs Act 1944. It is established to also provide support to the provision of the iTaukei Affairs (Tikina and Village councils) regulation 1996;
on the duties of the Tikina council section 13 (1) subsection (b)assist in determining local priorities for development and in assisting with the attainment of social, cultural and economic goals and sub section (e) on enhancing the Forum for the education of Tikina members on the problems relating to drugs, contagious diseases and or other associated problems;
Section 13 (2) subsection (a) improvement and maintenance of Tikina tracks and bridges; (b) the improvement and maintenance of village cleanliness and amenities; and maintenance of villages cemeteries; (e) regulating including the prohibiting of , the making or consumption of any alcoholic beverages, in particular commonly known as "Home-brew", and prohibiting and policing the illegal use drugs and other dangerous substances within the Tikina; (k) the administration of any schemes for the supervision and control of prisoners in the Tikina and the rehabilitation of ex-prisoners therein.
On the duties of the Village Council; section 29 sub-section (b) to implement policies to improve and develop the health, housing and sanitation needs; (c) to implement policies to foster education, formal and informal, for the benefit of the village.
